Headlain, Louisa A.¬†Durham Country House. 1877. 159 pages. 15.5 x 10 cm. Author’s inscription on free end paper: Louisa A. Headlain – Feb. 5th – 1877. An unusual manuscript giving a bird’s eye view of country life in the late 1800’s. Wide range of hand written recipes; all by the same author on lined paper with acknowledgment to original authors included. Containing recipes for Pommes au Beurre, Falkland Pudding, Curried Potatoes, Claret Jelly, Brazilian Stew, Raspberry Acid, and two Risotto recipes, (plus many more); the author seems to be well traveled and educated. Laid/pasted in, Temples Black Salve; with “Sarsfield Pharmaceutical – Chemist Durham” stamp on verso. Two contemporary penciled in names, most likely family member associations, and penciled in page numbers. 55 pages written, 104 blank. First page unattached. Orig. stamped green wraps. Good. Wraps.
