Bismarck, D.T. – E.H. Bly, Proprietor. North Dakota, 1880. 12 x 7.5 cm. Illustrated 1880 Christmas menu. An abundant selection of soup, fish, boiled meats, roasts, game, vegetables, entrees, cold “relieves”, relishes, pastry, pies & puddings, dessert, fruit, tea and coffee. Highlights include: Fricasseed Prairie Grouse with Fine Herbs, Loin of Buffalo with Current Jelly, Mountain Sheep with Apple Jelly, Loin of Elk, Queen Fritters with Sherry Wine Sauce. The Sheridan House, constructed in 1877 by E.H. Bly, was one of the first hotels in Bismarck, costing $50,000. The Sheridan was demolished following the 1898 fire to make room for the new Northern Pacific Railroad Depot although the surviving material was used to construct the Northwest Hotel.
