Exceptional oversized magazine supplement for “The Home Magazine.” Six sheets divided into seven sections numbered I-VII: Fish, Soup, Meat, Sauces, Vegetables &c., Pastry, Sweets and Preserves, and Health Foods. The Health Foods section promotes the products of the Health Food Company of New York City and exclaims the benefits of a grain-based diet. The final four pages consist of “Supplementary Sheet of Useful Hints, Diet of Invalids, and Bread Making.” The Home Magazine – A National Illustrated Journal, was a monthly periodical edited by Mrs. John A Logan. Born, Mary Simmerson Cunningham, Mrs. Logan accompanied her lawyer-turned-statesman husband to Washington on the eve of the Civil War. While he served 10 years in the House followed by 13 years in the Senate, this educated woman helped support her husband, championed the cause of women’s suffrage, and authored articles for the Home Magazine, which she also edited, and contributed a semi-weekly column to William Randolph Hearst’s newspaper syndicate. The top-bound binding and large type suggests its use either hanging in the kitchen or lying flat on the counter. Small losses, closed tears, and fold lines minimally affects text. Oversized pink paper self-wrappers, staple bound. Very good. Wraps.
