Hubbard, Elbert.  A Preachment by Elbert Hubbard. East Aurora: The Roycrofters, 1913. 21 pages. 20 x 15 cm. Treatise on vacuuming by Hubbard, on behalf of the Domestic Vacuum Cleaner Company of Worcester, MA. This volume is important as an outgrowth of the latest findings in microbiology. More importantly, it is the Roycrofters' attempt to take advantage of the movement to add a more scientific approach to homemaking (an interior essay, in fact quoted on the rear wrapper, warns that "Sickness is a result..." of the horrors of dust), and the advent of mass production in the manufacturing of household appliances. This work is included in McKenna's bibliography, but only as a one-line entry in the list of Hubbard pamphlets. An uncommon Roycrofters item, with no OCLC copies found. Crisp, clean copy, some small closed tears to edges. Color illustrated, decorative pamphlet, printed in red and black. Very good. Sewn binding.
