Electrotype from The Unique Illustrating Co., Tribune Building, New York City. c. 1920;s. 16 individual electrotype printing blocks, each accompanied by separate envelopes and copy of printed image. Block 5 x 5 cm., Sample 12 x 8 cm., Envelope 7 x 7 cm. During an age when women were starting to work outside the home, bread was one of the products that was easily purchased and was also one of the products heavily promoted to the public. These illustrations are accompanied by advertising slogans proclaiming the health, cost, and pride of the product - some examples: "Good Bread, Good Health", "Use Our Bread Generously", and "Pride of Our Bakery". Based on the fashion illustrated on the printing blocks and the stamp on the envelopes, this unique collection of objects and ephemera dates from approximately 1923. The Ideal Baking Company was located in Reidsville, NC.
