Souvenir photo book. c. 1940. 17 x 22 cm. Oblong black and white souvenir pamphlet featuring the characters and caricatures of the first Palm restaurant on Second Avenue. Pio Bozzi and John Ganzi, both immigrants from the Parma region in Italy, opened their doors in 1926. Thanks to the clientele of local journalist from companies such as the Mirror, Hearst, and King Features the cartoon syndicates led to the colorful caricatures on the wall, including here, a photo of "Jolly Bill" Steinke painting a cartoon on the wall. Photos by Robert Bagby, a commercial photographer and later a professor at Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). A clean, crisp copy of this entertaining slice of NYC history. Orig. photo illustrated wraps. Near fine. Staplebound.
