A wonderfully-illustrated book about 1940's New York fashion by the Fashion Group Inc., a fashion-industry collective conceived in 1928 by seventeen women, including: Edna Woolman Chase (Editor-in-Chief of Vogue), Elizabeth Arden, Eleanor Roosevelt, and Helena Rubinstein. The Fashion Group's objective was to push forward the agenda of women in business, especially in the fashion industry. Every office in the organization, including a position of Producer of its gala, was held by a woman. This particular volume was printed for the 10th anniversary gala in 1941, for which it is explained here, "Mrs. Eleanor Roosevelt has graciously consented to be our guest of honor January 9th." The beautiful cover art is rare, early work by Dorothy Hood, an American painter whose work resides in the permanent collections of over 30 major museums, including, MOMA, The Whitney, museums in Brooklyn, Philadelphia, Dallas, and Houston.
